GlobeHoppr is a daily geography puzzle about getting from one city to another the smart way. You start at a random city and are shown an orange target city somewhere else on the globe. Instead of guessing a single hidden answer, you hop from city to city, moving only to places within a set range, until you reach the target in as few turns as possible.

What is GlobeHoppr?

The core loop is route building. Each turn you pick a nearby city to move to, but you can only hop to a city within the current range, for example within 1000km of where you are. String enough of these hops together and you close the distance to the target. The catch is efficiency: reaching the target is not the whole goal, doing it in the fewest turns is. If you click a city that is out of range, it still costs you a turn but you stay put, so a careless jump is a wasted move. That makes GlobeHoppr a pathfinding game at heart, where knowing which cities sit close to one another matters more than knowing capitals or flags.

One feature keeps long distances playable: Ocean Portals. These appear in four regions of the map, the North Atlantic, South Atlantic, North Pacific, and South Pacific. When you are in range of a portal you can jump to its linked exit city on the far side of the ocean, which lets you travel the full globe. A portal jump counts as one turn, the same as any normal city hop, so it is a shortcut across water rather than a free move. There is also a hint you can turn on when you get stuck: it shows the first three letters of each in-range city on hover.

This is what sets GlobeHoppr apart from most geography guessing games. Titles like Globle and Worldle ask you to guess one mystery country and give you distance or direction feedback after each guess. GlobeHoppr is not a guessing game in that sense. There is no single hidden answer you are trying to name. Instead you build a chain of real cities from a known start to a known finish, and the puzzle is about the quality of the route rather than the accuracy of one guess. The city-to-city hopping and the range limit give it a very different feel from the usual single-answer format.

There is more than one way to play. The Daily Puzzle gives everyone the same fixed route to solve on a given day. The Weekly Challenge adds a special rule that changes how you move: one such rule keeps every move between countries that share a land border. There is also a Practice mode for learning city locations and route strategy at your own pace. The daily route resets on a new date so there is a fresh challenge to come back to, and the site keeps a How to Play button plus a rules and common questions section for anyone who wants the details before starting.

GlobeHoppr tracks how you do. It keeps a current streak and best streak, counts of daily puzzles played and completed, a results distribution, and a tally of perfect routes where you match the shortest possible path. You can play as a guest and still have your result counted, or create an account to save your daily progress and streaks across sessions. When you finish you can share your result with a "Can you beat my route?" prompt. The game is free to play in your browser, supported by ads, and shows a copyright of 2026 GlobeHopper. No individual creator is named on the site, though it does list a contact page for feedback and collaboration.

How to play GlobeHoppr

  1. Open GlobeHoppr at globehoppr.com.
  2. Note your starting city and the orange target city you need to reach.
  3. Pick a city inside your range circle and hop to it, moving toward the target.
  4. Keep choosing in-range cities as stepping stones, closing the distance with each hop.
  5. When you are near an Ocean Portal, use it to jump across the ocean; it costs one turn like any hop.
  6. Reach the target city in as few total turns as possible, since out-of-range clicks waste a turn.
  7. Come back the next day for a new daily route, or try the Weekly Challenge or Practice mode.

Tips and strategy

  • Look at where the target sits before your first hop so you commit to the right general direction early.
  • Remember the range limit: only cities inside the circle are reachable, so plan hops you can actually make.
  • Avoid out-of-range clicks, since each one costs a turn without moving you.
  • Watch for Ocean Portals when the target is across water; a portal jump can save many hops.
  • Turn on the hint if you get stuck, since it shows the first three letters of nearby cities on hover.
  • Think a couple of hops ahead rather than only taking the single closest city each turn.
  • Use Practice mode to build intuition for which cities are close to one another before tackling the daily.

GlobeHoppr FAQ

How do you play GlobeHoppr?

You start at a random city and must reach an orange target city by hopping through nearby cities. You can only hop to a city within the current range, for example within 1000km, and the goal is to reach the target in as few turns as possible.

What are Ocean Portals?

Ocean Portals appear in four regions of the map, the North and South Atlantic and the North and South Pacific. When you are in range of one you can jump to its linked exit city across the ocean, which counts as one turn like any normal hop.

What is the difference between the Daily and the Weekly?

The Daily Puzzle is a fixed route everyone plays that day. The Weekly Challenge adds a special rule that changes how you move, such as requiring every move to be between countries that share a land border. There is also a Practice mode for learning at your own pace.

Is GlobeHoppr free?

Yes, it is free to play in your browser and supported by ads. You can play as a guest, and creating an account is optional and only used to save your progress and streaks.

Is GlobeHoppr like Wordle?

Not really. Wordle-style geography games such as Globle and Worldle have you guess one hidden answer with distance hints. GlobeHoppr instead has you build a route between two known cities and optimize for the fewest turns.
