CardGuessr daily trading-card guessing game showing per-column attribute feedback and a partially blurred card.

CardGuessr is a daily trading-card guessing game. Each day it picks one secret card and asks you to name it, either by matching its attributes or by reading art that starts blurred and clears as you guess. The card can be a Magic: The Gathering card, with data from Scryfall, or a Pokemon card, with data from pokemontcg.io, and everyone gets the same puzzle for that UTC date.

What is CardGuessr?

The core loop is one card per day and two ways to attack it. In Attribute Guess mode you type a card name, and after each guess the game lines your guess up against the answer across several columns. For a Magic card those columns are Color, Type, CMC (mana value), Rarity, Subtype, and Year. For a Pokemon card they are Type, Stage, HP, Series, Rarity, and Weakness. Matching values are marked correct, and the numeric columns (CMC for Magic, HP for Pokemon) show an up or down arrow so you can steer toward the answer. In Blur Reveal mode the card art starts heavily blurred and clears a little more with each guess, so you are trading guesses for a sharper picture. Both modes point at the same daily card, so you can pick whichever style of deduction you prefer.

What sets CardGuessr apart from most -dle games is that it is not a text-only word puzzle. Instead of comparing letters, it compares real trading-card properties, and it pulls from live card databases so the pool is genuine cards with their actual sets, rarities, and stats. It also spans two games at once. One day the secret card is Magic, another day it is Pokemon, and the header tells you which game the current card belongs to. On top of that it bundles two puzzle styles into the same card: a structured attribute-matching game and a visual art-reveal game. A set-and-rarity specialist and someone who just recognizes the artwork can both get there by different routes.

There is no named creator or host listed on the site. The page carries a disclaimer stating it is not affiliated with, endorsed, or approved by Wizards of the Coast, Magic: The Gathering, Nintendo, or The Pokemon Company, and that all card names, images, and trademarks belong to their respective owners. It credits its card data to Scryfall for Magic and pokemontcg.io for Pokemon. The daily puzzle counts days from an epoch of May 1, 2026, which suggests the game went live around then, though that is inferred from the code rather than stated on the page.

Feedback is structured and immediate. After each guess you see which columns matched, with an up or down arrow on the numeric one, so wrong guesses still narrow the field. You get up to seven guesses. The game shows a running board of your guesses and ends with a solved summary that reads "Solved in N guesses" when you get it, or an "Out of guesses" and "Better luck tomorrow!" state with the answer revealed if you run out. When you finish you can copy a spoiler-free result labeled "CardGuessr #N" to your clipboard, which is the usual way daily-puzzle players compare without giving the answer away.

How to play CardGuessr

  1. Open CardGuessr at cardguessr.com to load the current day's card, and check the header to see whether it is a Magic or Pokemon card.
  2. Pick a mode: Attribute Guess to compare card properties, or Blur Reveal to work from the art.
  3. Type a card name as your guess and submit it.
  4. Read the feedback: check which columns are marked correct and note the up or down arrow on the numeric column (CMC for Magic, HP for Pokemon).
  5. Use each guess to narrow the remaining columns, and in Blur Reveal watch the art come into focus a little more each time.
  6. Solve the card within your seven guesses, then copy your "CardGuessr #N" result and come back tomorrow for a new card.

Tips and strategy

  • Open with a well-known card so the first round of feedback rules out large chunks of the pool before you commit.
  • Treat the numeric column as your best lever: the up or down arrow on CMC (Magic) or HP (Pokemon) narrows the field fast.
  • For Pokemon cards, lock the Series and Stage early, since those columns collapse the possibilities more sharply than Type alone.
  • For Magic cards, use Color and Subtype together, since that pairing often points at a small group of cards.
  • In Blur Reveal, hold off on wild guesses early; each guess clears the art a little more, so spend them to buy a sharper image when you are close.
  • You only get seven guesses, so avoid burning them on cards you are half-sure about; confirm one more column before committing.

CardGuessr FAQ

Is CardGuessr about Magic or Pokemon?

Both. The daily secret card can be a Magic: The Gathering card, with data from Scryfall, or a Pokemon card, with data from pokemontcg.io. The header shows which game the current card belongs to.

How do you play CardGuessr?

Each day there is one secret card. In Attribute Guess mode you type card-name guesses and get feedback comparing the card's columns (Color, Type, CMC, Rarity, Subtype, and Year for Magic; Type, Stage, HP, Series, Rarity, and Weakness for Pokemon), with an up or down arrow on the numeric one. In Blur Reveal mode the card art starts blurred and clears as you guess. You have up to seven guesses to solve it.

When does CardGuessr reset, and is there an archive?

The puzzle is keyed to the current UTC date, so it changes daily and everyone gets the same card. No archive of past puzzles was found on the site.

Is CardGuessr like Wordle?

It shares the once-a-day, guess-with-feedback, shareable-result format, but it is not a word game. Instead of comparing letters it compares real trading-card attributes, and it adds a separate mode where you identify the card from progressively unblurred art.

Who made CardGuessr?

The site does not name a creator or host. It credits its card data to Scryfall and pokemontcg.io, and carries a disclaimer that it is not affiliated with or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast, Magic: The Gathering, Nintendo, or The Pokemon Company.
