GeoGuessr drops you into a Google Street View panorama at an unknown spot on the planet and asks a single question: where are you? You read the signs, roads, plants, and buildings around you, then place a pin on a world map to lock in your answer. The free Daily Challenge gives every player the same five locations each day, so scores can be compared directly.

What is GeoGuessr?

The core loop is deduction from a real photographic scene. When a round starts you can look around the panorama in every direction, and often move along the road to gather more clues. There is no text box and no single correct word to type. Instead you interpret what you see, the language on a road sign, the side of the road cars drive on, the style of the architecture, the vegetation, and translate all of it into a location, which you record by dropping a marker on the map. The Daily Challenge runs five rounds, one location each, and you work through all five before the day's challenge expires.

What sets GeoGuessr apart from most daily guessing games is that it is spatial rather than textual. A typical -dle scores you pass or fail against one hidden answer. GeoGuessr scores you continuously by distance: the closer your pin lands to the true spot, the more points you earn, up to 5,000 per round and 25,000 for a perfect five-round game. Because the Daily Challenge serves the same five worldwide locations to everyone once per day, it reads as a shared daily competition rather than a region-locked or single-answer puzzle. A Current streak counter and a monthly calendar track the days you have played in a row.

GeoGuessr was created by Anton Wallen and is developed and operated by GeoGuessr AB, based in Stockholm, Sweden. The original game launched in 2013 and grew from a browser curiosity into a large platform with singleplayer exploration, competitive duels against friends, and an annual World Championship. Many of those wider modes sit behind a paid subscription, but the Daily Challenge itself is free to play, which makes it the natural entry point and the piece that fits the daily-game habit.

The feedback comes right after each guess. You see how close your pin landed to the actual location and how many of the 5,000 possible points that earned, and a running total climbs toward 25,000 as you work through the five rounds. Getting a round exactly right feels great, and even a rough guess in the correct country teaches you something for the next day. The live page shows an Ends in countdown to the next daily refresh, so you have until that timer runs out to play the current set.

How to play GeoGuessr

1. Open GeoGuessr at geoguessr.com and go to the Daily Challenge on the daily-challenges page.
2. Start the challenge and look around the first Street View panorama in every direction for clues.
3. Read the scene for signage, road markings, driving side, vegetation, and architecture to narrow down the location.
4. Place your marker on the world map at your best guess for that round.
5. Confirm your guess to see the true location, the distance from your pin, and the points you earned out of 5,000.
6. Repeat across all five rounds, then check your total out of 25,000 and keep your daily streak going.

Tips and strategy

• Look for text first. Signs, business names, and license plates often reveal the country or even the region outright.
• Note which side of the road cars drive on. It splits the world in half and rules out large areas quickly.
• Study the vegetation and terrain. Tropical greenery, arid scrub, and northern pine forests each point to very different latitudes.
• Watch the architecture and road quality. Utility poles, guardrails, curb styles, and building materials vary consistently by region.
• Move along the road when you can. A little travel in the panorama can turn up a sign or landmark that was out of view at the drop point.
• Place a reasonable pin before the day's challenge expires. A guess in the right country still scores points, and a placed guess always beats no guess.
