Cine2Nerdle is a daily movie game that comes in two flavors: a swap-the-tiles grid puzzle that hides several films in a 4x4 board of clues, and a head-to-head Battle mode where you and an opponent chain films together through the people they share. It rewards a deep memory of who acted in, directed, wrote, scored, or shot what, with fresh puzzles every day. Built by movie fan and developer Nilanth Yogadasan, it grew out of the post-Wordle daily games boom into one of the more strategic film trivia games around.

What is Cine2Nerdle?

At its core, Cine2Nerdle is two different games sharing one love of movie trivia. The flagship daily challenge is a swap puzzle built on a 4x4 grid of sixteen tiles. Each tile is a clue, and clues can be an actor's name, a word from a title, a character, a piece of soundtrack, a plot point, a genre, or a setting. Your job is to rearrange the tiles so that every row or column of four points at the same film, with multiple movies hidden in a single grid. You do not need to recognize all of the films up front, since you can lock in the connections you are sure about and reason your way toward the rest.

The second game, and the one that built the project's reputation, is Battle. Here you and an opponent take turns linking films through a shared person, an actor, director, writer, composer, or cinematographer who worked on both. The twist that gives Battle its strategy is that each connecting person can be used only three times before they are burned out and off limits. On top of that, each player carries a win condition, a goal such as playing a set number of films from a specific category, so you are not only trying to outlast your rival but also steering the chain toward your own objective. A Battle Royale variant pits a larger group against one another in the same elimination format.

Cine2Nerdle is the work of Nilanth Yogadasan, a developer and movie fan who built the original CineNerdle around 2022 during the post-Wordle wave of daily browser games, citing the film game Framed as an early inspiration. The sequel, Cine2Nerdle, was a ground-up redesign meant to fix the limits of the first version and add the partial-knowledge solving that makes the grid forgiving. The daily puzzles have been hand-built by the author, and a library of community-submitted grids has grown alongside them through a dedicated puzzle-submission platform.

What sets it apart from a typical letter guessing game is that it tests a web of associations rather than spelling. Wordle asks you to find one word; Cine2Nerdle asks you to remember who appeared in or worked on what, and to use that map of credits as a tool. The daily grid runs on visual feedback, with a row that has three correct tiles glowing yellow to signal you are close. Finished puzzles produce a shareable result you can post without spoiling the answers. How to play Cine2Nerdle

1. Open Cine2Nerdle in your browser and pick a mode: the daily tile grid for solo play, or Battle to face another player head to head.
2. In the daily grid, study the 4x4 board of sixteen tiles, where each tile is a clue such as an actor, a title word, a character, music, a plot detail, a genre, or a setting.
3. Swap tiles to group them into rows or columns of four that each describe the same movie, with several films hidden in one grid; a row of three correct tiles glows yellow to show you are close.
4. Lock in the connections you are confident about first, then use those fixed movies to deduce the tiles you are unsure of instead of needing to recognize every film at once.
5. In Battle, take turns naming a film that shares a person (actor, director, writer, composer, or cinematographer) with the film just played, remembering each person can be used only three times before being locked out.
6. Win a Battle by leaving your opponent unable to link a new film, or by completing your assigned win condition, such as playing a set number of films from a category, before they finish theirs.

Tips and strategy

• On the daily grid, start with the tiles only one film could own, like a unique character name or an exact title word, and build outward from those anchors before touching ambiguous tiles such as broad genres.
• Watch for the yellow glow as a confirmation signal: when three tiles in a line light up, you know that movie is nearly solved and only one tile is still out of place.
• In Battle, treat your prolific actors and directors as a budget. Because each person is capped at three uses, count what you have left so a reliable connector is still available when you are cornered.
• When you hold the chain in Battle, push toward films and crew your opponent is least likely to recall, using obscure international or older titles to force a stall.
• Keep your own win condition in front of you every turn, since playing films that advance your goal is more valuable than simply surviving the back and forth.
• Spend skips or passes only when truly stuck; burning them early leaves you defenseless later when the pool of usable people has shrunk.
