CancelWise number grid with row and column target sums and some cells canceled.

CancelWise is a daily number puzzle built around one idea: cancel the right cells so the numbers left behind in each row and column add up to their targets. Every row and every column shows a target sum, and your job is to decide which cells stay and which get crossed out. It works like Sumplete, packaged as a daily puzzle with four difficulty tiers.

What is Cancelwise?

You start with a grid of numbers, some positive and some negative, with a target sum printed at the end of each row and at the bottom of each column. You click a cell to cancel it and discard its value. The goal is to cancel cells so the remaining, uncancelled numbers in every row add up to that row's target and every column matches its target as well. A sum turns green the moment a row or column is satisfied, so you can see how close you are. You win when all rows and all columns are green at once.

What sets CancelWise apart from most puzzles with a -wise or -dle name is that it is not a word or trivia game. There are no letters and no hidden answer to guess. It is a logic exercise in arithmetic and deduction. The negative numbers in the grid are a meaningful twist: canceling a negative cell raises a total rather than lowering it, so removing the biggest numbers is not always the right move. That detail makes you think about signs and balance rather than size alone.

The puzzle comes in four tiers: Daily Easy, Daily Medium, Daily Hard, and Daily Expert. A new puzzle is offered each day, and the How to Play text tells you to select your preferred difficulty level and then click cells to cancel them. An elapsed-time timer runs during play, starting at 00:00, which gives the puzzle a light race-against-yourself feel without forcing you to hurry.

CancelWise is credited to csaron92, whose site links to a Bluesky profile and a Ko-fi page. The game is free to play with no paywall, and support is optional through a Buy me a coffee link. Feedback during a solve is minimal: the timer and the green target sums are the main signals, with no streak tracker, move counter, or one-click result sharing shown on the page. The result is a calm, focused puzzle that rewards careful reading of the grid over speed.

How to play Cancelwise

  1. Open CancelWise at cancelwise.com in your browser.
  2. Choose a difficulty tier: Daily Easy, Daily Medium, Daily Hard, or Daily Expert.
  3. Read the target sum at the end of each row and the bottom of each column.
  4. Click cells to cancel them so the remaining numbers in each row and column add up to their targets.
  5. Watch each target sum, since it turns green once that row or column is matched.
  6. Finish when every row and column target is green at the same time.

Tips and strategy

  • Start with rows or columns whose target is already close to the current total, since those usually need only one or two cancellations.
  • Remember that negative numbers work in reverse: canceling a negative cell raises that line's sum instead of lowering it.
  • Use lines that share a single unsolved cell to work out whether that cell must stay or go.
  • When a target is far above the current sum, look for negative cells to cancel rather than positive ones.
  • Solve the most constrained lines first and let their forced cells narrow the options for the rest of the grid.
  • Read both the row target and the column target for each cell before you cancel it, so one fix does not break the other.

Cancelwise FAQ

Is CancelWise free to play?

Yes. CancelWise is free with no paywall shown. There is an optional Buy me a coffee link through Ko-fi if you want to support the creator.

How do you play CancelWise?

You are shown a grid of numbers with a target sum for each row and column. Click cells to cancel them and discard their values until the remaining numbers in every row and column add up to their targets. A target sum turns green when it matches, and you win when all rows and columns are green.

When does CancelWise reset?

A new puzzle is offered each day across four difficulty tiers. The exact reset time and timezone are not stated on the site, and no archive of past puzzles is shown.

Is CancelWise like Wordle?

Not really. It is a daily puzzle like Wordle in schedule, but it is a math and logic game rather than a word game. It works like Sumplete, where you cancel cells to hit target sums, and its grids include negative numbers.
